Technical InformationThe Appalachian Manufactured Stone advantage: Not all stone is the same. Believe it or not, there are several different methods and admixtures that can have different effects on stone and cause it to do- or not do, different things. Since we have been in business we have perfected our formula to provide you the best stone, best suited to the harsh mountain environment at an affordable cost. Through much trial and error and testing I have developed a new formula that will keep your stone looking even better for years to come with an emphasis on durability to freeze/thaw cycles without compromising the strength of the stone. So you will still get great quality stone- with little or no waste from breakage or damage during transport AND an increased resistance to efflorescence and the elements. This formula includes some expensive admixtures that has actually increased my production costs but I have not increased the retail cost of our stone. The compressive strength of our stone is 4200 psi, and our stone weighs approx 8 lbs per square foot. Our stone meets all ASTM standards for absorption, freeze/thaw, dimensions, and density. Test results are available upon request. Included in our formula is a form of Calcined Kaolin which increases early strengths and reduces efflorescence and have also included an air entrainer that will increase resistance to freeze/thaw cycles.
